This summer, Timber Lake Playhouse will provide several opportunities for area teens to act, produce or work for Timber Lake Playhouse.

For the fifth year in a row, the Illinois Arts Council has awarded Timber Lake Playhouse a grant to create a paid apprentice program for area teens interested in pursuing careers in the theatre arts. TLP is now accepting applications for the apprenticeship program. The apprentice program is designed to immerse pre-college teens from Northwest Illinois in all aspects of professional theatre production. Rather than volunteering time, the grant provides an hourly pay rate comparable to other summer work.  Interested youth should send a letter of application with an artistic statement and a letter of recommendation from someone familiar with their work to admin@timberlakeplayhouse.org

For the fifth season, TLP is producing an All Area Teen Production. This summer, the production will be a staged concert version of Rent.  Rent will be presented July 26 – 30 and tells the story of a group of New York artists living in Manhattan’s lower east side during the early 90’s.

Auditions for Rent will be Saturday, June 12th from 10-5pm with callbacks happening on Sunday, June 13th. Students going into 9th grade through 2021 graduates will be eligible to audition. Please come prepared with a 45-60 second cut of a song either from the show or one similar. Pop/rock songs are acceptable. Please bring your own sheet music for the provided accompanist. You may also sing unaccompanied. To schedule an audition, email admin@timberlakeplayhouse.org or call the Box Office at (815) 244-2048.  ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED BY JULY 5TH IN ORDER TO PARTICIAPATE.

TLP is also hiring teens to work in the box office, gift shop, company kitchen, and concession stand for productions throughout the year.  Email TLP at admin@timberlakeplayhouse.org to apply.

“It is important for TLP to offer programming to area teens,” said TLP Executive Director, Dan Danielowski.  “We expect some very talented high school students to apply for these positions.”  Watch Timber Lake Playhouse’s website for information on upcoming concerts and productions.  For more information, tickets, and to register for classes, visit www.timberlakeplayhouse.org.
