Timber Lake Playhouse and the Magic Owl Children’s Theatre open with Elephant and Piggie’s “We Are In a Play!''
Timber Lake Playhouse (TLP), the premier professional summer theatre of northwest Illinois, opens its Magic Owl Children’s Theatre with Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are In a Play!” on May 7 and continuing through May 11. Mo Willems, the author of the best-selling Elephant & Piggie books, brings you a rollicking celebration of friendship and fun in a colorful musical for children and their families.
With their backup trio the Squirelles, Gerald and Piggie sing, dance and laugh their way through a day where anything can happen. Join the “bestus friends” as, together, they tackle friendship’s big questions: What happens when two friends want to play with ONE toy? What DO you wear to a fancy party? And will ANYONE say “Banana?”
This musical experience, ripped from the pages of Mo Willems’ beloved, award-winning, best-selling children’s books, will leave audiences doing the “Flippy Floppy Floory” dance all day long! In Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” an elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are best, best, “bestus” (a word Gerald and Piggie made up that means “very best”) friends, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong that would end their friendship. Piggie is not worried at all. She’s even happier and more excited than usual. That’s because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time. And so begins a day when anything is possible.
Filled with beloved characters and lively songs, Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” is a perfect way to introduce young people to theatre. This play was commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and was first produced at the Kennedy Center during the 2013-2014 season. The TLP production runs May 7, 8, 9, & 10 at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm and May 11 at 11:00 am. All tickets are $6.00
TLP continues with their Concert Series on May 11 at 7:00 by welcoming Dancing Queen – an ABBA Tribute. Dancing Queen is quite literally the most accurate ABBA tribute band in the country. On May 17 & 18 at 7:00 and May 19 at 2:00, TLP welcomes back Nashville Recording Artist, Brooke Byam for Dolly…and Friends - a sequel to last season’s very popular Reba…and Friends. On May 24, Timber Lake Playhouse hosts Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos for a one-night show. This all request show assures that everyone in the audience will enjoy the evening regardless of age, gender, and musical preference! Tickets for all concerts are $25 for general public and $20 for TLP subscription holders.
Don’t miss TLP’s opening celebrity chef event, Worldly Delights – A Night In The Mediterranean on Friday, May 3 at 6:30 pm. This event will be held in the theatre at the Timber Lake Playhouse. Tickets for this event are $30.
