• Children's Discovery Center Celebrates Cotton Candy Day

    The Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum," has many great activities to enjoy this week. WOW Wednesday brings a make & take workshop with a holiday tree ornament craft. On Funtime Friday, enjoy Cotton Candy Day. Each of these programs is FREE with your museum admission or membership. Don’t forget to save the date for the 7th Annual Family New Year’s Eve Party on December 31, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

    WOW Wednesday
    Wednesday, December 5, from 2 – 5 p.m. is WOW Wednesday, sponsored by US Bank Foundation. Join a make & take workshop where you’ll craft a wonderful reindeer ornament for your house or tree. WOW Wednesday is geared for school-aged kids and their families and is a perfect activity for an early-out school day.  WOW Wednesday is drop in with no pre-registration required.

    Other WOW Wednesday topics for December include: December 12 – Make & Take Workshop: Christmas Candle Wreath; December 19 - Make & Take Workshop: Paper Ball Reindeer Craft; December 26 – Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

    Every WOW Wednesday also brings Miss Jean, a retired teacher who shares chess, juggling and logic puzzles at the Discovery Center. She teaches beginning chess to all, from preschoolers through adult or she will play a strategic game with an opponent to match their skill level. Additionally, she loves to juggle and can teach anyone of any age to become a successful juggler. Also, Sweeney has on hand three large cases of logic puzzles, construction materials, and hands on brain teasers to fascinate any age.  Her new construction set is Joinks, so come check it out.

    Funtime Friday
    Friday, December 7, at 10 a.m. is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. Cotton candy day is upon us. Join with others to make and enjoy cotton candy together. This favorite program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although all age children are welcome, including older siblings and families who homeschool.

    Other Funtime Friday topics for December include: December 14 – Dance with Miss Angela and her Dance 4 Joy Dancers; December 21 – Miss Jessica of Clinton County Conservation and an EcoCenter Surprise Guest; December 28 – Card Playing Day.

    7th Annual Family New Year’s Eve Party
    On December 31, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., the Discovery Center is hosting their annual Family New Year’s Eve Party. The entire museum will be decorated in games, activities, and crafts for families to enjoy. There will also be facepainting, balloon animals, a giant bounce house, and prizes for everyone. Drop in at the prize booth with your winning tickets to pick out some fun prizes. A 1,000-balloon drop will commence at 5:15 p.m.

    The Discovery Center is located at 332 8th Avenue South in downtown Clinton, Iowa, at the foot of the U.S. 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi. They are open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 12:30 to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 per person ages two to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children's museum.
