The Paul B. Sharar Foundation for Clinton Community College celebrated another successful year at the recent 2019 Chancellor’s Society Dinner and Annual Meeting.
Sharar Foundation Board Chairman and CCC graduate Bill Vetter presided over the event which featured an update from CCC President Dr. Karen Vickers in addition to presentations from Dean of Student Development Dr. Michelle Allmendinger and nursing student Travis Eversoll.
Dean Allmendinger enlightened the audience about the RISE – Retention Intiative with Support & Engagement – Program. .  Structured after the TRIO program, RISE is an exciting initiative created for student success in partnership with the Sharar Foundation.  The 17 students enrolled will attend 25 hours of additional advising, sessions, study time, and instructor engagement.  The intended result is a higher graduation rate for these students.
Student Travis Eversoll shared his journey to becoming a nurse which includes the Patricia Gorman Nursing Scholarship funding from the Sharar Foundation.  Travis shared his appreciation for the generosity of the many Sharar Foundation donors.  The presentations highlighted the variety of ways the Sharar Foundation mission of providing advisory and monetary support to the students and programs of Clinton Community College strengthens the college and prepares students to join the area workforce.
CCC President Dr. Karen Vickers presented highlights of the year.  This included new college leadership in the hiring of Interim Dean of Instruction Gabe Knight as well as Dr. Michelle Allmendinger.  Dr. Vickers also shared appreciation for five new scholarships, and the generous donation of $1 million from Mrs. Jim Byrns in memory of her husband.  The Jim and Juanita Byrns Scholarships have provided financial support and encouragement to students for more than 20 years.  The Byrns endowment will continue to support students in perpetuity.   Dr. Vickers thanked Bill Vetter for his commitment to the college as a graduate, board member and EICC Trustee.  Through the years, Bill has seen the work of the college offer educational opportunities to so many in the communities we serve.
Vetter proceeded over the Annual Meeting including the addition of new board members and new officers including board chair Chuck Duax. Following the election of officers, Duax recognized Lynn McGraw for serving as Treasurer from 2007 through 2019, and Stacy Milroy for her 15 years as board secretary.  Milroy will become board treasurer and Gina Schwartz has accepted the role as secretary.
