In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing, the Andresen Nature Center will be hosting a party and presenting the video, “In the Shadow of the Moon,” on Saturday, July 20th. This video is an artful blending of historical footage of the Apollo program with personal commentary and reflections from eight of the twelve astronauts who actually flew an set foot on the moon. Totally engrossing and emotionally gripping topics include the astronaut’s thoughts, concerns, and the sensation of sitting on top of a lit Saturn Five rocket, the spirituality of seeing the Earth as a colorful ball set in the blackness of space, the “magnificent desolation” of the moon, and dealing with the public , fame, and life after returning. Winner of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Audience Award, the video pulls the audience back into the emotionally turbulent 1960s while also delving into the personalities of the heroes of that era.

The celebration will start at 1:30 PM, with the video starting at 2:00 PM.

    No cost to attend.

Popcorn and limited drinks will be provided. Sorry, no alcohol is permitted at the Center. Bring a snack to share!

The Andresen Nature Center is located at 409 North 4th Street in Fulton, adjacent to Heritage Canyon.
