DESCRIPTION:Eastern Iowa Community Colleges' is proud to provide its servicing areas with high-quality education and training that prepares a skilled workforce.\n\n \n\nStarting Thursday\, November 11\, 2021\, the college is offering a short-term\, affordable solution for managers looking to add a new skill to their resume. The course\, "Leadership: Conflict to Collaboration\," explores how to change work relationships and interactions from conflict-ridden\, to collaborative.\n\n \n\nThe training series includes four modules\, taking place in-person at the SCC Urban Campus\, 101 W 3rd St.\, Davenport. The course costs $645 per student and includes all workshop materials.\n\n \n\nThose who complete the modules will earn a microcredential. A Microcredential is a mini-certification that focuses on a specific skill. This earned skill is recognized with a digital badge\, allowing graduates to showcase the image on their resume or professional online profile(s).\n\n \n\nClasses will be held on November 11\, December 2\, 9\, and 16. Content includes:\n\n \n\nModule 1: Listening Skills\n\n \n\nListening is the foundational skill for conflict resolution. It requires a sustained effort to remain in the present moment and suspend judgment.\n\n Understand key attributes of listening\n Understand barriers to listening\n Correctly explain\, using examples demonstrating the four levels of listening\n\n Module 2: The Conflict Episode\n\n \n\nConflict begins when you become aware that something you care about is threatened. Understanding how the conflict episode unfolds and how to take action to avoid escalation will increase the possibility of resolution.\n\n\n Define conflict and the implication of the definition \n Demonstrate a clear understanding of the conflict episode \n Can explain the dynamics of conflict escalation\, including distributive and integrative solution paths \n\n Module 3: Conflict Management Solution Paths\n\n \n\nIn this session\, participants explore the three sources of conflict and their distinctive solution paths. Using what was practiced in the previous workshops\, you will learn how to find integrative space within a conflict situation.\n\n\n Can use the Neutral Statement method to determine type of conflict \n Demonstrate a clear understanding of the three types of conflict: Factual\, Interest Based and Behavioral\n Can explain conflict de-escalation by using examples of the solution path for each type of conflict\n\n Module 4: Collaborative Decision-Making\n\n\n\nHow organizations manage conflict reflects on their ability for collaborative decision-making. Learn how the addition of dialogical skills will work with the previous training modules to create an environment for collaboration and effective decision-making.\n\n\n Understand the meaning and intent of dialogue\n Demonstrate use of Humble Inquiry questioning techniques to achieve "listening to understand"\n Understand and demonstrate using examples of the four behaviors of effective dialogue (listening\, respecting\, suspending and voicing)\n\n For more information\, contact the EICC Continuing Education Department at cegeneral@eicc.edu\, 563-441-4100.
