“Leaders Emerging and Developing”
Objectives 2011-2012
Established in 2011, the LEAD program identifies
and develops future community leaders within our local school systems,
both in secondary and higher education.
The objectives of the Clinton Area Youth
Leadership Program are as follows:
To provide participants meaningful
exposure to community leaders who share their leadership philosophies
and insights for success.
To build or enhance commitment to the
community by connecting participants with the historical roots of the
community.
To create awareness of key community
organizations and processes, leading to an understanding of how the
pieces fit together and discovery of how and where participants can
make a contribution.
To development leadership skills to be
applied in present of future leadership roles.
To provide an experience in
“learning by doing” through active involvement in a
leadership project that adds value to the community or insight into the
application of leadership in the real world.
To link participants with a network of
community leaders with common interests that can be assessed in the
future
To retain our future leaders within the
community, so that we can utilize their talents and leadership
abilities
Provides you with strategies to handle the
formidable challenges associated with moving into new and increasingly
more complex leadership roles
Be able to understand, recognize, and
foster the right leadership qualities in yourself and others
You will gain a better understanding of
your own approach to leadership and acquire new ideas to optimize and
sustain your potential.
Deepen participants' knowledge of the
Clinton Community, its structure, mission and vision, and opportunities
To identify fellow leaders within your
surroundings

Must Maintain 3.0 GPA or above throughout

2011-2012 Class Requirements
In order to successfully complete the youth
leadership institute, the following requirements must be met:
1. ATTENDANCE:
You are encouraged to attend ALL sessions;
although successful completion of the leadership institute REQUIRES
that you attend at least 80% of the sessions. Failure to attend
at least 80% of the classes will result in dismissal from the class
2. GROUP PROJECT:
Each class is required to complete a project.
Active participation from Leadership Institute participation in
the project planning is expected. Please do your part in helping
plan the project and see it through to its completion. The
project must be completed by the end of the class year.
3. CHAMBER INVOLVEMENT/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
Each participant is required to attend at least
one chamber meeting or community /civic group meeting. You will
be provided with a list of Chamber Committee Meetings and a list of
Clinton Area Clubs and Organizations as a starting point. Once you have
attended the meeting, you will report back on your experience.
4. CO-CHAIRS:
The project co-chairs must be elected by the
class. There must be one co-chair with a college status and one
co-chair with high school status.
5. CLASS MEMBERS:
The students in the leadership institute must be
nominated by the designated school officials. You must be in a
sophomore standing as a college participant and senior standing if you
are a high school participant. The following schools are invited
to send applicants to the leadership institute: Ashford University (4),
Clinton Community College (4), Clinton High School (3), Prince of Peace
High School (3), Camanche High School (3), Fulton High School (3),Unity
Christian High School (3), Lincoln High School (3).

Project Chairperson/Co-Chair Role
The project chairperson or co-chairpersons
will serve on one sub-committee in addition to the chair role itself
Be the primary communication between your
group and the staff liaison
Facilitate all project meetings after
leadership sessions
Begin all meetings with a prepared agenda.
This should entail any updates or newsworthy information that the
chairs themselves need to present.
Each agenda should consist of updates from
each of the sub-committee chairs
Serve as the “go-to” person or
people for any situations that may arise over the course of the
institute pertaining to your project
There shall be one co-chair with high
school standing and one co-chair with college standing.

from 11:45am-1:00pm at the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce.
